The After Series by Anna Todd…Have You Been Missing Out?

I will admit after reading the first couple of chapters I wasn’t completely sold on After by Anna Todd but after that…Ms. Todd had me – hook, line and sinker!! Now what am I supposed to do until book 2 releases!!!! I don’t usually read a synopsis or review, but with so much buzz surrounding After, I decided to take a look and see what everyone was about. I was aware it was a fan fiction story with an EPIC following, involving the band One Direction but, after reading it I have no idea what that means 😉 I admit some of the reviews I read had me a little nervous about what I was about to begin reading. Well… I should have stuck to my guns and NOT read reviews because I absolutely loved almost every page of this nearly 600 page read. I loved it so much that I read it in two sittings and that was only because it was Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and my family would have been mighty ticked if I sat through dinner with a book in my hand… But I wanted to 😉 What I read was an incredible angst-filled story about a young woman venturing out on her own for the first time in her life, off to college. Tessa is a young woman in every sense, and I really got that from the way Ms. Todd wrote her. Naive and trusting, like many of us were at her age, and I felt myself relating to her. Especially her choices in the men in her life. What is it about a-hole men that attracts some of us. Hardin is the character that you love to hate, but I couldn’t help falling for him myself. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a class A asshat, but I could tell there was more to him and I wanted to know what “more” was. The characters in this story are great! Every one of them playing the perfect part 😉 I think anyone reading this book needs to go in remembering what it was like trying to navigate through life after high school. Trying hard to stand on your own to feet and make grownup decisions, even if they were the wrong decisions. After gave me one hell of a book hangover and I can’t wait to get my grabby little hands on book 2. Honestly, I am still reeling over this story. I will warn you that there is a cliffhanger in After and HOLY EFFING HELL, I did NOT see it coming!! Congrats Anna Todd, I can’t wait to see where you take this story.  Nic

After We Collided by Anna Todd My rating: 5 of 5 stars I was completely consumed by After We Collided…671 pages read in 2 1/2 nights and I wish there was more. Again, I find myself tense and edgy at the thought of having to wait for the December 30th release of After We Fell. I am completely addicted to the After series!!! It definitely ranks up there in my all-time favourite series. #HESSA I wish I could put my finger on exactly what it is that has me drawn to Tessa and Hardin’s story. It might be how they’re both trying to navigate through life the best they can – both damaged by events of their childhoods. Or it might be the deep, desperate passion between them. Really, it doesn’t matter. All I know is that I wasn’t able to put After We Collided down. Anna Todd sucked me right back into the story with her complex characters and angst-filed love story. I feel for Tessa, what would any of us do if we were in her shoes? Would you stay and fight or would you walk away. Hardin has crept into my heart. I want to slap him silly but I absolutely love him. He is everything a girl is warned to stay away from but no one will love as deeply or passionately as he will. I know there are readers out there who will complain about the story and the behaviour of the characters but for me, that’s what makes the story so addictive. This isn’t a sweet love story…It’s messy…It’s unhealthy… It’s passionate…and it’s all-consuming. Quite often Ms. Todd references Wuthering Heights – one of my most favourite love stories ever – and I think it’s the similarities between Tessa and Hardin, and Catherine and Heathcliff that have drawn to this story. After We Collided was an incredible read as there haven’t been too many books this year that have made me drop everything. The perfect amount of angst and passion make this a love story I can’t get out of my head…or my heart. And again with the perfect cliffhanger. Hurry up December 30th – I need more!!!  Nic

💋A Flirty and Dirty sit down with Anna Todd💋

I have become a huge fan of Anna Todd these past few month so I was honoured to have this lovely lady answer a few questions for us.

I love her even more now and can’t wait to see what the future has instore for this talented lady.

FD:  What is it about One Direction that inspired you to write about them? And can you please explain what One Direction fan fiction is?

AT:  I love them for starters. I love their music and their interaction with their fanbase, they have done something that so few groups have been able to and I love that. One Direction Fan fiction is just like other fan fiction, where the fans create stories loosely based on them. Sometimes they are realistic, for example, someone may write about meeting Liam Payne while he’s on tour and they fall in love. Others, like me, write AU (Alternate Universe) Fan fiction, where they create completely new characters based on the looks and names of the real person. Zayn may be a vampire king in one story and a college professor in another.

FD:  Obviously, Harry Styles is your favourite member of One Direction, what is it about Harry that you love?

AT:  Well I love all of them so much, but Harry was the first one I clung to when I first discovered them. He’s just so silly and kind and I think he’s just a one of a kind, wonderful person.

FD:  What inspired Tessa and Hardin’s angsty, dysfunctional love story? 

AT:  Wuthering Heights was the main inspiration for the dysfunctional aspect and the angst came from my love for angsty novels. 

FD: Who is your favourite character in the series and why?

AT:  Hardin for sure. I love Tessa as well, but Hardin holds a very special place in my soul. I hadn’t planned for him to be such a complex man, but the more he came to life, the more I cared for him.

FD:  What does Anna Todd have planned next?

AT:  Lots and lots of writing 🙂

FD:  Why Wattpad?

AT:  I loved reading on Wattpad because of the format and the fact that it’s an app. I grew to love the community as well. It’s such a positive and innovative place!

FD: Who are some of your favourite authors?

AT:  I love everything written by RK Lilley. She’s phenomenal. I also love Jane Austen, if you can’t tell by reading After haha! Christina Lauren and EL James are also huge inspirations for me.

FD: Ebook or physical book?

AT:  Physical for sure. Most of the time, I buy both, but there’s nothing like holding an entire world in your hands.

FD: What are you currently reading?

AT:  I’m currently reading Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma, it’s killing me!

5++ READ The perfect ending to this amazing series! Not gonna lie, I’m sad I won’t get anymore #HESSA.

I have loved, and thoroughly enjoyed, each and page of every book in Anna Todd’s After series. After Ever Happy was definitely a bittersweet read for me as it meant the end to one of my favourite series, but WOW what a way to end.

As always Anna Todd kept me on my toes with the dysfunctional relationship that is #Hessa. Ms. Todd did a fantastic job of bringing this angst-filled series to an end. But I warn you, don’t be fooled by the word “Happy” in After Ever Happy because as everyone who has read this series knows, nothing is ever cut and dry when it comes to Tessa and Hardin. I thought I had the end of this series figured out… Yeah…Ummmm…Not! Nothing like being on the edge of your seat, with your heart in your throat, for almost an entire book. Anna Todd will forever be my queen of angst!

If you haven’t yet started the After series, don’t miss out on this brilliant series. If you are enjoying this series, I can promise you that Anna Todd did not disappoint this reader with After Ever Happy.
